Senator Marty Pushing for Moratorium on Billboards

by | Apr 3, 2025 | Press

Senator Marty is pushing legislation to create a moratorium on billboards in Minnesota, allowing cities and counties to phase them out over time.

“When you look at all the marketing Minnesota does for tourism, you look at the TV commercials we provide, the online ads to promote our state for tourism — beautiful pictures — none of them have any billboards in them.”

“For safety and for scenic beauty, Minnesota should not be adding additional billboards. Four other states – all of them tourism states – Alaska, Hawaii, Vermont, and Maine do not allow any billboards. 72% of Alaska voters supported an initiative to eliminate all billboards in the state.”

The legislation passed out of the Senate Transportation Committee. Senator Marty plans to continue pushing the legislation in the future.
